How this is calculated

Open interest is the total number of contracts for that exact strike and expiration that are currently open, meaning not yet closed, exercised, or expired. It's different from volume, which only counts today's trades.
Max contracts within your limit equals open interest multiplied by the percentage you enter, rounded down to a whole contract.
Trading a size that represents a large share of open interest raises the odds of a wide bid-ask spread and a harder time exiting at a fair price, since there simply aren't many other contracts changing hands.
