How this is calculated
Relative volume compares how much has traded today, projected out to a full session, against the stock's typical daily volume.
The projection assumes trading continues at today's average pace for the rest of the session. Volume is rarely spread evenly across the day, usually running heavier near the open and close, so treat this as a working estimate rather than an exact forecast.
Very low relative volume often means wider bid-ask spreads and more slippage getting in and out. Very high relative volume often means a news catalyst is driving larger-than-normal moves, in either direction.
This tool does not check the stock's absolute share count or dollar volume. A high relative volume figure on a stock with very low absolute volume can still be a liquidity risk.
