Is my account size actually big enough for the strategy I'm trying to trade?

Answer Honestly

Think about what's actually happened in your account, not what you think should be true.

1. How much does a single round-lot position (100 shares) in the stocks you trade typically cost relative to your account?

2. When you place a defined-risk options spread, how much of your buying power does the margin requirement typically use?

3. Have you ever had to skip or downsize a trade you liked because your account genuinely couldn't fit it?

4. If you're pattern-day-trading, how does your account compare to the old $25,000 pattern day trader minimum (still relevant only if your broker hasn't switched to FINRA's 2026 intraday margin standard yet)?

5. How does your position size compare to a stock's average daily volume when you enter or exit?

6. Do commissions, fees, and the bid-ask spread eat a meaningful chunk of your typical profit target?

7. If your account dropped by half tomorrow, would the strategy you're currently running still make practical sense at that size?
