How this is calculated
Total dollar risk on the trade equals shares (or contracts) multiplied by the distance between your entry price and your stop-loss price.
Minimum account size equals total dollar risk divided by your max risk-per-trade percentage.
This is the reverse of a standard position-size calculation: instead of solving for shares given an account size, it solves for the account size given a share count.
This does not check your broker's margin or buying power requirements, which can be higher than the minimum shown here depending on the instrument and your broker's rules.
Works for both long trades (stop below entry) and short trades (stop above entry). Only the distance between entry and stop matters for this calculation.
