How this is calculated
Each position's dollar risk equals the difference between its entry price and stop-loss price, multiplied by its quantity. One option contract is treated as 100 shares, the standard size for one equity option contract, unless your actual contract is adjusted.
Total risk is the sum of every position's dollar risk. Total risk as a percent of account divides that sum by the account size you enter.
This only totals the positions you type in. It does not connect to a broker or pull your open positions automatically, so the total is only as complete as the list you give it.
The calculation assumes every stop-loss fills at the exact price entered. In a fast-moving or illiquid market a stop can fill at a worse price, so actual risk can end up higher than shown here.
Positions in the same stock, sector, or direction can move together. If several of your open trades lose for the same reason on the same day, your practical loss can be worse than this simple sum suggests.
There is no universal cap on total portfolio heat. The color-coded note in your result reflects commonly cited guidelines, not a rule set by any broker or exchange. A disciplined trader sets their own limit ahead of time and sticks to it rather than deciding in the moment.
