How much should I cut my position size ahead of an FOMC meeting or a major economic data release?

How this is calculated
This uses a fixed cut percentage for each event tier, set by Trading Habits as a simple risk-reduction convention. It is not derived from live volatility data or any model of how much the market will actually move.
Routine releases use a lighter cut. Fed statements with a press conference use a heavier cut because both the rate decision and the unscripted commentary can move markets.
If you exit the position before the event instead of holding through it, event-driven exposure is already at zero and no cut is needed.
This is one input into position sizing around scheduled events, not a signal about which direction the market will move.
Check an economic calendar for exact release times. Timing and content of these events changes, and this tool does not track a live calendar.
