How long until I should stop trading ahead of a scheduled economic release?
Set Your Blackout Window
Your Blackout Window
Enter the release time and your buffer minutes, then click Start to see a live countdown.
How this works
Your blackout window starts a set number of minutes before the release and ends a set number of minutes after it, both defined by you.
Spreads tend to widen and price can move sharply and erratically in the seconds around a major scheduled release, which is a different kind of risk than a normal intraday move.
This timer assumes the release time you enter is today, in your device's local time zone. Re-enter the time if you're checking the night before or from a different time zone than where you'll be trading.
Common events traders build a blackout around include CPI, the jobs report, FOMC statements and press conferences, and other scheduled releases with a known, fixed time. This tool doesn't know the economic calendar, only the time you give it.
This is a simple countdown based on your own inputs, not a live news feed or economic calendar.
Risk & liability disclaimer: This timer performs simple time-based arithmetic based on the release time and buffer minutes you enter. It is not financial advice and does not track any actual economic calendar, news feed, or market data. Trading around scheduled economic releases involves elevated risk of rapid price moves and wider spreads.
