How this is calculated
Pip distance is the absolute difference between your entry price and stop-loss price, divided by the pip size for that pair (0.0001 for most pairs, 0.01 for JPY-quoted pairs).
Pip value in USD uses the same convention as our other forex calculators: pip size times position size when USD is the quote currency, or pip size times position size divided by the exchange rate when USD is the base currency. This tool uses your entered entry price as that exchange rate.
Dollar risk equals pip distance multiplied by pip value. This is your actual risk on this specific stop, not a target or a rule of thumb.
If you enter an account balance, the tool also shows that dollar risk as a percent of your account, so you can see whether the stop you'd naturally place on this setup fits a risk-per-trade rule you're already using.
This goes the opposite direction from our lot size calculator, which starts from a target dollar risk and solves for position size. Use that one first if you haven't sized the trade yet; use this one to check the risk on a size and stop you already have in mind.
