How this is calculated
These numbers are simple multiplication: your account size times each loss limit percentage. The value of writing them down is having an exact dollar figure decided in advance, instead of deciding what counts as too much in the middle of a losing session.
A circuit breaker only works if you actually stop when you hit the number. Print the card and keep it next to your screen, or set alerts at these dollar amounts if your broker or platform supports it.
These limits are your own choice, not a rule this site sets for you. A common starting point is a daily limit of 1% to 3% of account, scaling up to a monthly limit in the 6% to 10% range, but your actual numbers should match your own plan.
Pair this with a cooldown timer once you hit a limit, so stopping for the day turns into an actual break instead of just closing the platform and reopening it an hour later.
