How this is calculated

  • This tool measures where the current price sits inside its own 52-week range, it does not predict which direction the stock goes next.
  • Position within range is calculated as (current price minus 52-week low) divided by (52-week high minus 52-week low), expressed as a percent from 0 to 100.
  • When price sits within 10% of either edge of its 52-week range, this tool flags it as near an extreme, since prices near either edge of a year-long range have historically produced larger moves in both directions than prices sitting mid-range.
  • If you enter a normal share count, the suggested size at an extreme is reduced by 25% as one conservative, symmetric adjustment. This is one reasonable approach, not the only one, and doesn't replace a stop-based position size calculation.
