How this is calculated
For pairs where USD is the quote currency, profit or loss equals the price change (exit minus entry for a long, entry minus exit for a short) multiplied directly by the position size in units, since price is already quoted in USD per unit of the base currency.
For pairs where USD is the base currency (USD/CAD, USD/CHF, USD/JPY), the price change multiplied by units gives a result in the quote currency first, which this calculator then converts to USD by dividing by the exit price, the standard convention for valuing a closed position at its final rate.
A short position simply flips the sign: a price drop produces a profit, and a price rise produces a loss.
This is the raw price-move profit or loss only. It does not subtract the spread, commission, or any overnight swap or rollover fees the position may have accrued, use the spread cost and swap cost calculators alongside this one for the full picture.
Risk & liability disclaimer: This calculator produces a mathematical estimate based on the numbers you enter, not live market data or your actual broker's fill prices. Actual results can differ due to slippage, spread, commissions, swap fees, and rate rounding at your specific broker. This is not financial advice and does not guarantee any trading outcome.
