How this is calculated
Profit factor equals total gross profit divided by total gross loss.
Net profit or loss equals gross profit minus gross loss.
A profit factor of exactly 1.0 means your winning trades and losing trades added up to the same dollar amount, a breakeven result before any commissions or fees.
Commonly cited reference ranges: below 1.0 means you lost more than you made, 1.0 to 1.5 is a marginal edge, 1.5 to 2.0 is considered solid by many traders, and above 2.0 is considered a strong edge. These are general reference points, not guarantees, and a high profit factor calculated from very few trades can be misleading.
