How this is calculated
This tool assumes that when you add shares, you also move the stop on your entire combined position, original shares plus new shares, to the new stop price you enter.
Your original dollar risk budget equals the distance between your original entry and your original stop, multiplied by your original shares. That number is treated as the most you're willing to risk on this trade in total.
The maximum add-on size is the number of additional shares you can buy at the current price, with the new stop applied to the whole position, without pushing total dollar risk above that original budget.
If your new stop is above your original entry (long) or below it (short), the original shares now carry locked-in profit instead of risk, which frees up room to add more shares while still respecting your original risk budget.
This tool does not check whether the resulting position value fits your account's buying power or your max position concentration rule. Confirm both separately before placing the order.
